Her power is to instantly give you purple sparks when drifting, which previously took a second or two to actually activate and had a long cooldown time. Puff, which is surprising because she was terrible in the last game. I've found that the new godlike crew member is. However, the item spam has been massively toned down, which means that the old crew is largely ineffective here since you don't get hit very often. The AI is still just as obnoxious here once you reach Fast and Insane - basically, if you're moving at your default speed in first place, whoever's in second will quickly overtake you. Hutchinson (spend less time spinning out after being hit with an item) paired with a chief like Sam or Ed and Bev Bighead who could use an attack to speed you up while keeping the blatantly rubberbanding CPU at bay. In NKR2 the top tier crew combination was Eugene (get a boost after being hit with an item) and Dr. The changes to the drifting/boosting make snaking around these tracks at high speed a lot of fun, especially the ones that let you get big air like Northern Water Tribe and Reptar Ruins. Now that I've seen the game at it's full potential, I do think it's better than the second one (aside from how annoyingly buggy it can be). Fast is decent but still not quite crazy enough for me, and today I finally unlocked Insane. I finally finished the boring chore of 100%ing Slow and Medium on Slime Scramble for the unlocks, glad I don't have to ever touch those speeds again. This is the first time I straight up contacted Nintendo for a refund because I found it seriously hard to control and to look at, thankfully I got my money back. It consistently struggles to even hit 30 FPS, it feels slightly more playable in handheld but it's just horribly choppy when docked. NKR2 ran at 60 FPS on Switch most of the time so I preordered this thinking it would be the same but boy was I wrong. Also, Zim looks downright horrific in this game.ĭo not buy this game on Switch, it runs horribly. My favorite character so far is Cindy, it's just fun to hear her rant about Nerdtron during the race. There's no indication that it's actually going to do that either, so most people will probably get annoyed and back out after less than a minute. There doesn't seem to be many people playing on PS5 to begin with, but when I actually do get into a lobby, it takes like two minutes before a single race will start. My biggest complaint so far is that the online matchmaking is painfully bad. I'm not sure I like it quite as much as the second game since they changed the handling/drifting quite a bit, that one was very stiff and snappy like CTR whereas this is closer to something like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed where it's a little more loose and you can retain your boost charge when you quickly switch directions while drifting. I've played a good amount on PS5 so far and it's pretty fun. Looks like a great choice for kids that offers something a little different from Mario, Crash and Sonic. The game looks fun! I like that they added bikes, has a Splatoon battle mode where you have to spray more ink than the competition, and has voice acting. The game released yesterday, and there aren't a lot of written reviews yet for Metacritic and Opencritic. This game has 40 playable racers (Zuko and Eastern and Laird Raphael are DLC) and 90 unlockable pit crew characters. Platforms: Windows, Xbox One and Series X, Playstation PS4 and PS5 and Nintendo Switch
